Abstract:
Author - Catherine Fischer, KIS The lecture is divided into two parts. In the first part I present the possibilities and ways to obtain data from ground-based telescope data archives. Then we focus on how to write a good observing proposal - from convincing the Time Allocation Committee of the science case to determining an adequate instrumental set up. We thereby discuss the trade-off between high-spatial, high-spectral and high-cadence observations for various instruments. Part 1 concludes with writing together the outline of an observing proposal for the GREGOR telescope. The proposal will be submitted in the 2020 observing season and students are encouraged to join the process from writing the proposal to calibration and analysis of the obtained data, as well as publishing interesting results. In part two we focus in aligning data obtained from satellites to ground-based data.
