Caption
The movie shows elastic toothbrush filaments which interact with a toothpaste consisting of a fluid and abrasive particles. The filament on the right is three times more stiff than the filament on the left which leads to less bending.
Further information
The ground which represents the enamel moves with constant velocity to the left and upwards. The system is periodic in both lateral axes. The results are obtained from co-simulations using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) software SimPARTIX for the fluid and the finite element method (FEM) solver Abaqus for the elastic filament. The coupling between the two codes is realized using the co-simulation interface MpCCI.
