Magneto-acoustic wave propagation in a magnetic flux sheet (moderate field)
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
03.07.2015
Co-author:
S. S. Hasan, O. Steiner
Caption:
Temperature perturbations in a magnetic flux sheet (moderate field strength) due to waves excited by a horizontal motion at the bottom boundary. The waves higher up are predominantly acoustic (slow magneto-acoustic) that propagate up and form shock. The thin black curves are field lines and the white curve represents the contour of β=1.

Polarized radiation shows signature of fast magneto-acoustic wave refraction (strong field)
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
06.07.2015
Co-author:
O. Steiner, S. S. Hasan
Caption:
Variation of Stokes-V profiles of Fe I (5250.2 Å and 6302.5 Å) emerging from a small region on either side of the magnetic flux sheet (strong field strength). The effects of refraction of the fast (predominantly magnetic) wave is visible in the Stokes-V asymmetries and zero-crossing shift as a function of time.

Caption:
Variation of Stokes-V profiles of Fe I (5250.2 Å and 6302.5 Å) emerging from a small region on either side of the magnetic flux sheet (moderate field strength) as a result of wave propagation within the line-of-sight. The emergent Stokes-V profile over the whole domain does not show any significant variation with time (not shown in the animation).
Tornadoes in the solar atmosphere: vorticities connected to magnetic field
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
22.03.2015
Caption:
The sequence shows the evolution of dynamic structures resembling tornadoes in the solar atmosphere. The blue and green color scheme shows the vorticity in the solar atmosphere in the regions where solar tornadoes appear. The plane shows the magnetic field strength about 1Mm below the solar surface where $\tau=1$. One can clearly see that the vorticities are closely related to the subsurface magnetic field.
The European Solar Telescope - EST (2017)

SOLARNET - High Resolution Solar Physics Network
Date of upload:
28.03.2018
Caption:
Promotional video for the European Solar Telescope (EST-IAC). EST is a revolutionary 4-metre aperture telescope designed to investigate our active Sun at unprecedented resolution. EST will be installed in the Canary Islands (Spain) to benefit from unique observing conditions. First light is planned for 2027.
