Fly through the G328 Sector of the Galaxy showing Carbon Monoxide, Carbon and Atomic Hydrogen
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
01.08.2015
Caption:
The G328 sector of the Galaxy, showing the emission from three spiral arms in lines from carbon monoxide (12CO green and 13CO yellow; Mopra), carbon ([CI] red; HEAT Antarctica) and hydrogen (HI blue; Parkes/ATCA). The movie shows a 3D projection of the data cube, with the distance from the Sun obtained from the velocity axis of the cube. The other two axes are the Galactic longitude and latitude.

Magneto-acoustic wave propagation in a magnetic flux sheet (strong field)
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
03.07.2015
Co-author:
S. S. Hasan, O. Steiner
Caption:
Temperature perturbations in a magnetic flux sheet (strong field) due to waves excited by a horizontal motion at the bottom boundary. The excitation generates fast magneto-acoustic wave (predominantly magnetic) along with slow magneto-acoustic wave near the centre of the flux sheet. The fast wave is refracted, but the slow wave continues to propagate up.
Magneto-acoustic wave propagation in the solar atmosphere: tilted magnetic field ($\theta=30^°$)
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
13.03.2015
Co-author:
M. Roth, O. Steiner
Caption:
Evolution of the velocity perturbation scaled with the square root of the density,
$ \rho^{1/2} \delta|v|$, for the scenario of a tilted magnetic field with $\theta$= 30$^°$. The horizontal
line shows the equipartition level, where the sound speed equals the Alfven
speed, $c_\mathrm{s} = c_\mathrm{A}$. The tilted lines represent magnetic field lines.

Simulation of a spherical magneto-acoustic wave propagating in the solar atmosphere: interaction with magnetic canopy, $\delta B$
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
13.03.2015
Caption:
The spherical magneto-acoustic wave is excited right beneath the magnetic canopy. The color map shows the magnetic field perturbations $\delta B$. The fast magnetic mode in the low regime is supported
by magnetic forces, causing signicant perturbations of the magnetic field. The green contours display the equipartition level, where $c_\mathrm{s} =c_\mathrm{A}$.
Magneto-acoustic waves in magnetic flux tube
Natural Sciences (Astrophysics and Astrononmy)
Date of upload:
05.07.2015
Co-author:
Fedun, V.; Hasan, S. S.; Erdélyi, R.
Caption:
Temperature perturbations associated with the propagation of magneto-acoustic waves in a magnetic flux tube. Two scenarios of wave excitation, viz. granular buffeting and swirly motion are studied. Buffeting by granule are likely to generate strong slow and fast magneto-acoustic waves compared to swirly motions as evident from the temperature fluctuations seen in the case of horizontal excitation.
